Abstract

Abstract This study highlights the pivotal role played by the Ministry of Trade in detecting anti-competitive practices through competition inspectors and economic investigations. Although these actors are essential in identifying initial indicators of such practices, they are not empowered to impose sanctions, which remain under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Competition Council. The economic investigations conducted in this area follow a rigorous methodology, with their findings submitted to the Ministry's central departments for assessment. Based on this evaluation, the Minister responsible for trade may refer the matter to the Competition Council when appropriate. However, this investigative framework still requires further development, including enhanced specialized training, the provision of modern analytical tools, improved inter-agency coordination, and the establishment of an up-to-date database. These improvements are necessary to ensure more effective support for the competition regime in Algeria.
