Abstract: This research aims to examine the Algerian legislative framework governing the relationship between economic development and environmental protection, and to assess its ability to achieve a balanced approach between supporting the economic role of Small and Medium -Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and imposing the environmental obligations necessary to ensure sustainable development, given that these enterprises constitute a fundamental pillar of economic activity. This situation calls for a reassessment of legislative policies in order to strengthen the balance between environmental protection requirements and economic development.
