A manufacturer's liability for defective products

The remarkable development in the industrial sector has led to the proliferation of a wide variety of products, which often put consumers’ lives and finances at risk, especially when they are defective or do not meet specifications. This situation has prompted a search for effective means to ensure consumer protection, which is a vital objective the state seeks to achieve, particularly as consumers now face risks from counterfeit products and those that do not meet legal specifications, as well as from services provided by manufacturers that lack even the most basic safety and security standards. To protect consumers against producers, most legislations have established the producer’s civil liability for defective products, a principle adopted by the Algerian legislature under Law No. 05/10 dated June 20, 2005, amending and supplementing Ordinance No. 75/58 containing the Civil Code,
