Smart Cities Strategy between Implementation and Activation Mechanisms

Abstract

Smart cities have witnessed rapid development in light of the information technology revolution, or what is known as digital transformation. This has reflected on the urban pattern in general and urban management in particular. The latter adopted a strategy of balancing implementation by developing the technological infrastructure (smart networks and data systems) and activation to achieve the goals of sustainable development across its three dimensions. From this perspective, it is clear that the adoption of the smart city by nations was not a choice, but an inevitable necessity imposed by a set of factors, foremost among them being the industrial revolution.
