In the early nineties, Hamid Ali Bouacida founded a satirical newspaper called El Gantra, in which he wrote ironically about the political situation in Algeria and published a number of short stories. It was not until 2006 that the author’s first collection, Cinq dans les yeux de Satan (Five in the Eyes of Satan), was published. This article focuses on this collection, aiming to identify how Ali Bouacida uses satire and wordplay in his short stories, while at the same time diverting the clichés that can interfere with his writing.
