This contribution falls within the vast field of sociolinguistics; it is interested in the analysis of code switching among French-language university teachers. In many cases, the teachers resort to using other languages than the target language in their interventions with students.
For this study, we tried to examine the different languages present in the classroom as well as the types and functions of code switching.
By analyzing the data collected, we observed the manifestation of three other languages next to the target language. We therefore noted the presence of dialectal Arabic (Algerian Arabic), Standard Arabic (modern Arabic) and the English language. Besides the presence of these three languages, it was found after examination of the corpus that they fulfil, namely the objective of the speech, two different functions; one is didactic, the other is purely communicative.
